I think the title says it all.   I know I am a bit behind on this one (technical issues, not laziness are the cause of that) however I feel I need to ad my voice.

The cartoonists, editors, writers and all the others who contributed to Charlie Hebdo had more courage than just about any I know of.   They are equal  of Medal of Honor (and the equivalents around the world) recipients, journalists in war zones like Syria and Iraq, the various folks who fought and died for civil rights for all.  For them, I raise my digital pen into the air.

Merci

and the time flies by.   Holy $%&@, another year has flown by.   Then again, I have been very busy this year.   It has not been dull either.   I got stuff in the pipeline and some goals to meet.   Anyway, that's all for now.

After a long absence, I have finally returned (mostly) to the Internet and DevArt.   While I have been online before via public 'net terminals, I finally got my hands on a PC with WiFi.   Sure it's an old  eePC and I have to share it with my housemates, however I can now create, upload and otherwise do want I want/need to do.

Sometimes you're the truck and sometimes you're the gopher trying to cross the Interstate.    Last Friday, it was gopher time for me.

I had been trying to revive my PC.   Note that past tense as I was mostly successful (as noted in my last Journal entry),  however last Friday, my efforts got dealt a fatal blow.    My poor old video card (a now ancient Radeon 9200 card) died.    Since the PC is so old (the last major rebuild was in 2004) and things have advanced since then (AGP which was my old card's interface got replaced by PCI-e), finding a replacement card is just about impossible.   It's simply not worth the time to be trolling the web for an old card espically since the mainboard is likely to go in the near future.   Thus my PC had died the final death.

Its parts have either been sent for recycling or if functional (like the hard drives, sound card, RAM, etc) have been saved for future usage.    I hope in a year or two to have enough funds to build a new PC, however that depends on job prospects (which are poor given that I live in Italy).

Well, I finally got my PC working, mostly.    I say mostly as I have timeshare monitor space with my TV since my old panel is dead.   So at least I can do basic PC things.   Still no Net access yet, I don't have the spare funds.

Anyway, I still cannot continue my graphics work as in the process of reviving my dead PC, I found that something critical on my OS parition got FUBARed and so I can't boot.   No biggie as I tend to keep my data on other partitions/drives and I have a spare hard drive handy.   Pop in drive, reinstall Ubuntu and presto, I am back in business!    There is a spanner in the works however:  I lost my GIMP installation and I can't reinstall as I lack an Internet connection.    I am going to see about trying to find a .deb package, borrow a friend's PC, download the package(s) to a USB key, then "sneaker-net" the package(s) to my PC.   Grumble, growl, snarl.   Still, at least I can do some some basic phote edits with Shotwell and my camera is working so I should have some sprodiac photo uploads in the future.    I was aslo able to recover my Openbox and Tint2 configs from my old install so that is safe.
